A bill to amend section 3701.99 and to enact sections 3701.94 and 3701.95 of the Revised Code to prohibit human cloning, the creation, transportation, or receipt of a human-animal hybrid, the transfer of a nonhuman embryo into a human womb, and the transfer of a human embryo into a nonhuman womb.
Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer (SCNT), or cloning, involves three steps. An unfertilized egg is taken from a woman and its nucleus is removed. Then, DNA from a person is placed inside the egg. Next, chemicals are added and a spark of electricity jolts the cell into dividing and growing into a cloned
human embryo.
All cloning, whether therapeutic or reproductive, is the same thing – somatic cell nuclear transfer. All cloning reproduces a human being at the embryonic stage. Therefore, we must oppose it.
