Ohio Christian Alliance Celebrates the Passage of H.R. 116, A Resolution Supporting FDR’s D-Day Landing Prayer Inclusion at the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Ohio Christian Alliance Celebrates the Passage of H.R. 116, A Resolution Supporting  FDR’s D-Day Landing Prayer Inclusion at the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Today, honoring those brave men and women who served our country in WWII, the Ohio House passed H.R. 116, a resolution expressing support for H.R. 2070, federal legislation sponsored by Congressman Bill Johnson of Ohio’s 6th District and co-sponsored by 40 members of the U.S. Congress, including Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio’s 17th District and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur of Ohio’s 9th District.  H.R. 2070 will place FDR’s D-Day Landing Prayer at the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Sixty-seven years ago, on the morning of June 6, 1944, as Allied forces were landing on the beaches in Normandy, President Roosevelt went to the airwaves and prayed with our nation for God’s blessing and protection upon our brave fighting men.  He prayed, “Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity….”

OCA President Chris Long states, “President Roosevelt’s prayer articulated the great crusade that was underway to liberate millions suffering under tyranny. He noblized the war effort and paid honor to the fallen and those veterans who fought courageously in the conflict.  It is only fitting that succeeding generations learn of this prayer that was offered at that most poignant moment in our nation’s history.” 

We therefore urge members of Congress to support the FDR D-Day Prayer Project and pass the legislation that will allow its inclusion at the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.  We commend Congressman Johnson and the Congressional co-sponsors of this historic legislation. 

Today we commend Rep. Danny Bubp who introduced H.R. 116, the resolution supporting H.R. 2070.
