This week with OCA

OCA met with many attendees at our booth at the Bringing America Back to Life Symposium presented by Cleveland Right to Life.

Chris and Silvia with Star Parker and Patty Gascoyne-Telischak at the Bringing America Back to Life Symposium. David Barton of The Wallbuilders was the Friday night keynote speaker. David discussed the importance of highlighting that to be pro-life and pro-family is also consistent with fiscally conservative positions. He also presented a strong case that our Founding Fathers were pro-life and that they believed that life begins in the womb and that life should be protected under the Constitution. Congratulations to Molly Smith and Cleveland Right to Life for putting on a great pro-life event in Northeast Ohio. OCA is proud to partner with Cleveland Right to Life.

OCA Presents Legal Briefs to Members of Cuyahoga Falls City Council in Defense of Their Public Prayer Before Council Meetings

Members of the Cuyahoga Falls City Council recently received a threatening letter from an atheist group based in Minnesota. The group's name is Freedom From Religion Foundation. The group's threatening letter stated that if the city council didn't cease praying before its council meetings, they would face a lawsuit brought by the Freedom From Religion Foundation and the ACLU.  Cuyahoga Falls resident Ed Sturkey reached out to OCA for support in this matter. The OCA office provided legal briefs from The Alliance Defending Freedom Foundation that describes the constitutional right of prayer before council meetings, also known as the guest minister prayer policy. Ed Sturkey presented compelling testimony to city council in a public meeting on Monday, March 3, detailing that prayer before Congress and governing bodies in America is a time-honored tradition that dates back to September 7, 1774 with the First Continental Congress prayer by Rev. Duche.  Prayer has been part of our tradition ever since. The U.S. House of Representatives opens with prayer; the U.S. Senate opens with prayer; the Ohio House opens with prayer; city councils and county councils and trustee meetings across our state open with prayer. It is a time-honored tradition intricately woven into our history as an American Republic to ask for Divine guidance in the governance of men, as Mr. Sturkey stated.

The City Council of Cuyahoga Falls has stated that they will continue to pray until the Supreme Court decides on a similar case. The decision is due out in early June. Stay tuned to the Ohio Christian Alliance for further developments on this important issue.....
