Representatives Lynch, Becker, Adams Organize Discharge Petition on H.B. 269, Ohio's Voter Photo ID Requirement Bill
Ohio Statehouse – Today, members of the Ohio General Assembly organized a discharge petition on H.B. 269, Ohio's voter photo ID requirement bill. This issue polls consistently at over 70% favorability with Ohioans. Yet, the legislation has been stuck in committee and has not received so much as a sponsor hearing.
An independent citizens' audit, the Secretary of State's post election voter fraud report, and numerous reports from Boards of Elections of double voting and irregularities tell a story that voter fraud is on the increase in Ohio. Thirty-two days of open voting still on the books create an atmosphere and present opportunities for those who want to exploit Ohio's election process to do so.
OCA President Chris Long made the following statement, "We applaud the effort of State Representatives Matt Lynch, John Becker, and John Adams for leading the charge on voter photo ID requirement in Ohio. The citizens' audit of boards of election in the aftermath of the 2012 Election made it clear that more needs to be done to stem the growing tide of fraud in Ohio's elections. Voter photo ID requirement in Ohio will go a long way to protect Ohio's vote from fraud."
The discharge petition is a constitutional option to move legislation. A majority of legislators is needed to bring the legislation to the floor for debate in an up or down vote.
