Dear Representative,
We write to ask your support and co-sponsorship of voter photo ID requirement for Ohio. State Representative Andy Brenner of Ohio's 67th District is introducing legislation that would adopt voter photo ID requirement for Ohio. A citizens' initiative-led audit of boards of election in the aftermath of the 2012 Election discovered a number of irregularities and voter fraud that occurred at polling locations across the State of Ohio. S.O.S. Jon Husted also produced a post-election voter fraud report which discovered 625 irregularities among the 88 county boards of election. 135 cases were turned over to local law enforcement for prosecution. One week after the report was delivered, Franklin County B.O.E. discovered an additional 90 cases of double voting. Election officials turned this information over to the county prosecutor. Shortly thereafter, Hamilton County found 3 additional cases of voter fraud by out of state residents who voted by absentee ballot, this was in addition to the 19 indictments previously handed down.
These are just a few of the examples of proven voter fraud cases that have been pursued in recent years. In addition, you are most likely aware of the Secretary of State's recent updated report of non-U.S. citizens registering and voting in Ohio's elections in recent years.
What these reports indicate is that voter fraud is on the rise in Ohio. Ohioans overwhelming support voter photo ID requirement as a safeguard against voter fraud. The measure consistently polls at 70% nationally and here in Ohio. A FOX News poll conducted last year indicated that 55% of Democrats, 66% of Independents, and 91% of Republicans all favor voter photo ID requirement. The poll also indicated that a majority of African-Americans also support voter photo ID requirement.
Representative Brenner's voter photo ID legislation is patterned after legislation that has already been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. We therefore urge your support and co-sponsorship of voter photo ID requirement for Ohio, State Rep. Andy Brenner's bill which is soon to be introduced.
Thank you for your time and attention. We would be happy to answer any questions you might have.
