Ohio Christian Alliance today praised the efforts of State Senator Patricia Clancy and the co-sponsors of the Adoption Opportunity Act, S.B. 20, which was heard today in the Ohio Senate Ways and Means and Economic Development Committee, chaired by Senator Ron Amstutz.

Senator Clancy stated in her sponsor testimony, “Adopting a child can be a costly endeavor.  Expenses associated with adoption can total tens of thousands of dollars.  The Child Welfare Information Gateway estimates that adoptions fall into the cost range of $2,500 to over $40,000.  The costs associated with adoption can be overwhelming to prospective parents.”

Ohio Christian Alliance President Chris Long is delighted that this bill, which will effectively triple the current tax credit of $500 to $1500, has been introduced.  He states, “There are thousands of children in Ohio awaiting adoption.  It is our belief that the passage of this bill will encourage prospective adopting parents and will lessen the financial expense through the adoption process.”

The Adoption Opportunity Act, introduced in the Ohio Senate by Senator Patricia Clancy and in the Ohio House by Representative Danny Bubp, is a family-friendly bill that will assist families in Ohio who want to adopt children and offer them a loving home.
