1) Supporting the Institution of Marriage.
A.
Establishing a Covenant Marriage Law. We support enacting a state law modeled
after legislation in Arkansas, Arizona or Louisiana, providing for covenant marriages
in Ohio. Under such a law, couples
would be held to a higher level of marital commitment, take extra steps prior
to marrying and have more limited grounds for divorce.
B.
Reforming Divorce Law. Rolling back the no-fault divorce law in
Ohio to a mutual consent divorce standard when children are involved is just
one idea for consideration. No-fault
divorce laws have eroded the institution of marriage, and we see the impact
this has had on children and the family structure. It is critical that steps are taken to restore the ideal of
marriage.
2) Prohibiting Embryonic Stem Cell Research and All Forms of Human Cloning. We want to ensure that no public
funding is used for the creation, experimentation and destruction of human
life. Therefore, we oppose any taxpayer
funding for embryonic stem cell or human cloning research.
3)
Instilling Knowledge of Founding Documents. Study after study demonstrates that
America’s schoolchildren have a shocking lack of knowledge when it comes to our
nation’s history and government. It is
foolish to believe these students will grow into active, valuable citizens if
we fail to educate them in American History and Government. We support legislation to ensure that Ohio’s
schoolchildren receive a civics education grounded in our nation and state’s
founding documents.
4)
Supporting the Ten Commandments. In response to what occurred in Adams
County, Ohio, and across our nation, we are working on a resolution to affirm
the role of the Decalogue as our nation and state’s legal, moral and cultural
foundation.
5)
Increasing the Adoption Tax Credit. Adopting a child can be a costly
endeavor.
We believe the financial burden
on adoptive parents can be eased by tripling or doubling the state adoption tax
credit which currently stands at $500 for each minor child legally adopted (ORC
5747.37).
